GateHouse Maritime to Monitor Gas Pipeline in the Baltic Sea

Poland’s GAZ-SYSTEMS awarded offshore surveillance, maritime analytics and data company GateHouse Maritime a 5-year contract to monitor a new gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea, the companies announced.
GateHouse, which is headquartered in Denmark, will provide data analytics to automate monitoring of the pipeline that will deliver Norwegian gas to Danish and Polish households, a news release states.
The monitoring should enhance the maritime security in the area surrounding the Baltic Pipe, according to the news release.
GateHouse Maritime Ocean Visibility offerings uses AI and machine learning to analyze vessel traffic, ensuring vessels do not accidentally damage the pipeline by automatically warning them when they get too close, and detect, predict and document other events and incidents, GateHouse said.
“We are pleased to win a contract of this caliber,” GateHouse VP Commercial Martin Dommerby Kristiansen said. “The Baltic Pipe project is a significant part of both Danish and Polish energy infrastructure, and our solution can warn and thus prevent vessels from potentially damaging activities in the area, such as bottom trawling or anchoring which will minimize the risk of damages on the pipeline.”
Baltic Pipe is a strategic EU infrastructure project led by Danish and Polish companies to build a gas pipeline from the North Sea to mainland Poland via the busy waters of the Baltic Sea, the news release states. GateHouse Maritime will monitor about 275 km (170 miles) of the pipeline, which will begin operating in 2022, according to the release.
The Baltic Pipe will be a crucial part of both Denmark’s and Poland’s gas infrastructure systems providing households with direct access to the Norwegian gas fields, the release states.
