Improving Data Quality of Medium Voltage Drives
28 June 2022

Sponsor: Siemens

Medium voltage drives are often exposed to extreme stresses that can cause wear and tear over their lifetime. Without regular maintenance, damage often goes undetected until an equipment failure. Learn more about addressing these challenges with innovative condition-based monitoring to ensure unparalleled reliability, availability and enhanced maintenance. Take a look at the technology based on feedback obtained from real-time sensors that are integrated into the drive system. Some of the conditions monitored by these integral sensors include, but are not limited to:

  • Ambient temperature
  • Humidity
  • Presence of chemicals like hydrogen sulfide, among others
  • IR sensors to detect hot spots for customer connections

All of these factors impact the life and performance of medium voltage drive equipment. This unique approach to VFD design allows users to identify potential failures early, prioritize their maintenance and maximize plant uptime by extending equipment life and performance.

Global pipeline trends: What does the future look like?
24 May 2022

The continued growth in oil and gas pipelines, both onshore and offshore, flies in the face of the global push to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and embrace renewables. As we transition towards net-zero, why is there still a need, even for the mega-project?

Global Energy Infrastructure pipeline expert Kevin Fuller teams up with Michael Reed, editor of Pipeline & Gas Journal to discuss the deeper impacts of the last few decades, analyse some recent trends and demonstrate how Global Energy Infrastructure’s database will provide you with the data you need to succeed in the field.

Some of the topics to be discussed include:

  • Regional Impact – Update and challenges for new oil and gas projects. Who are the big winners and losers as we survey new Oil & Gas projects across the world?
  • Security of supply – The impact of the Ukraine/Russian War for Europe and the World? What does the post-war situation look like in the region?
  • The European Hydrogen Backbone – Repurposing the gas network. What are the key issues and challenges?

We will also discuss some upcoming pipeline projects from around the world and ask whether the current situation changes our thinking about them:

  • EastMed pipeline
  • Power of Siberia II
  • EACOP projects

Cyber Threats to Oil & Natural Gas Operations
19 April 2022

Sponsor: Dragos

Adversaries are increasingly targeting ONG and related energy industries to further political, economic, and national security goals. Their activity threatens the availability of industrial technologies and safety of those operating them. Industrial asset owners and operators can defend against these adversaries.

Join this interactive panel discussion and learn the full scope of threats targeting ONG infrastructure around the world and:

  • Why all stages of ONG operations are high-value targets for cyber attacks.
  • Major areas of concern - and actionable recommendations to address them - for upstream, midstream, and downstream.
  • How OEMs, third-party vendors, and supply chains increase risk in your IT and OT networks.
  • Defensive recommendations to strengthen your ICS/OT cybersecurity posture.

X80 Grades for Risers and Flowlines: Enabling Ultra-Deepwater Field Development
12 April 2022

Sponsor: Vallourec

Oil and Gas field developments in Deep or Ultra-Deep waters present new challenges for pipeline installation. The high pressures found in these environments require heavy wall pipes in standard grades with thicknesses above 40mm. Such line pipe designs lead to specific installation methodology mastered by a limited number of pipe laying companies and require higher use of accessories such as buoyancies, as well as specific welding expertise to guarantee fatigue and sour service performance. These challenges directly result in additional costs.  For the last decade, Vallourec has worked extensively to develop and qualify two new line pipe X80 grades (SMYS 555MPa) with sour service performance in order to optimize cost installation.

In this webcast, Harold Evin will present these new grades which include an X80 grade for mild sour environment (NACE Region 2) for risers and flowlines up to 40mm in wall thickness, and an X80 grade for more stringent sour service conditions (Nace Region 3) available up to 30mm in wall thickness. Both grades allow a reduction of up to 20% in pipe wall thickness compared to the standard X65 grade, therefore generating significant installation cost optimization.

Enhancing Situational Awareness with Modern SCADA Platforms
29 March 2022

Sponsor: Emerson

Quick, easy access to the right information at the right time is essential to ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable pipeline operations. Modern SCADA platforms that offer graphical user interfaces ensure users can rapidly assess situations and make informed decisions without hesitation, leading to greater uptime, fewer incidents, and lower costs.

During this webcast, Emerson’s Oil and Gas SCADA experts will discuss the value of situational awareness and how it has evolved to provide more advanced insight, including visualization and embedded GIS data. The discussion will cover a range of topics, including:

  • What is Situational Awareness and how does it really improve the user experience,
  • Regulations and best practices related to Situational Awareness (API 1165, 1167 and 1168),
  • The importance a tightly integrated SCADA system plays in achieving Situational Awareness in the control room,
  • The future of SCADA and how Situational Awareness will continue to steer development efforts going forward.

This webinar is highly recommended to anyone who plays a role in, or is responsible for, specifying a SCADA platform. You will get expert insight on the most important considerations to keep in mind along with advice on how to reduce human error by turning volumes of data into actionable information.

The Evolution of SCADA and Enterprise
8 February 2022

Sponsor: Stratus Technologies

The change that is now permeating our industry is not constrained to how we operate but also extends to the tools that are now being employed to further optimize our processes and to deliver cost cutting improvements. Advanced analytics using AI and ML are optimizing recurring activities such as scheduled maintenance and equipment inspections.  Combined with Edge and Cloud technology, these tools are changing the industry landscape by redefining automation and allowing a previously unheard-of level of efficiency.

To realize the benefits of this technology, additional hardware and software will need to be deployed to collect and cleanse data at the edge.  The edge platform employed to do this must be designed with both hardware and software geared to be easily installed and maintained and it must enable the current IT support staff to increase network size while minimizing workload impact.

Participants will learn about:

  • Next evolution of automation and autonomous operations
  • Utilizing solutions to enable edge to enterprise
  • Important factors to consider a scalable edge solution
