Southern India To Get Bay Of Bengal Gas
Natural gas is scheduled to begin flowing through new pipelines from the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin off the Andhra Pradesh coast to southern India in 2012, according to news reports.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has requested implementation of the project in a “strict timeframe, at a meeting held between representatives from Reliance Industries, owner of the KG field, and GAIL. Moreover, Reliance has been granted government authorization to lay the pipeline from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, to Chennai and Tuticorin, located in Tamil Nadu.
The KG basin produces 60 MMcm/d of gas which will be raised to 80 MMcm/d.
