Syria To Buy Azerbaijani Gas

President Bashar Assad said Syria will buy up to 1 Bcm of gas from Azerbaijan per year, which could see construction of pipeline infrastructure between the two countries.

“There are gas pipelines linking Azerbaijan, Iran, Georgia and Turkey. Two years ago we launched talks on gas supply and laying gas pipeline from Turkey to Syria. Azerbaijani gas can be supplied to Syria via this pipeline and onward to Jordan and Egypt,” Assad said. “We are interested in buying gas as we have small volume of reserves. Azerbaijan will supply a great part of the gas that will run via this route.”
