Baker Hughes Opens Marcellus Shale Repair and Maintenance Center
Baker Hughes announced Oct. 21 the opening of its Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania, repair and maintenance center. The facility will support natural gas well drilling, completion and production operations in the Marcellus Shale.
The 57,000-square-foot center represents a $16 million investment and is part of a multiyear $250 million infrastructure investment to support Marcellus Shale operations. Baker Hughes currently employs nearly 1,000 people in the region.
“We are pleased that Baker Hughes has selected Westmoreland County for its ongoing expansion,” noted Westmoreland County Commissioner Tom Bayla. “We look forward to the creation of jobs and new opportunities with Baker Hughes and the natural resource industries.”
“In the last two years, we have steadily increased our investment and enriched our commitment to delivering safe and effective solutions that maximize asset value in an environmentally responsible manner,” said Paul Butero, president of Baker Hughes in the U.S. “The Marcellus Shale presents unique challenges and these challenges demand local infrastructure and local experts that understand the Marcellus Shale. Our goal is to continually improve our service, and our growing number of local facilities throughout the region means we can respond quickly to customers with local crews trained to provide the highest level of execution on Marcellus wells.”
