Six Dead in Gas Explosion at Polish Ski Resort

Firefighters and rescuers worked through the night hours after the accident occurred on Wednesday (Dec. 4). 

Head of regional firefighters, Jacek Kleszczewski, told The Associated Press about a half of the debris had been checked Thursday and responders were focused on cutting through the collapsed ceiling structures.

A suspected cause was a gas leak during work on a pipeline, according to AP, which said prosecutors were on the site to investigate.

The provincial governor said the bodies of four adults and two children have been found in the rubble, Reuters reported.

Up to eight people could have been in the building and firefighters are continuing to search for other victims, a local police spokesman said.

Up to 100 firefighters and 50 police officers are on the scene.
