Gran Tierra Reports Fifth Oil Discovery in Ecuador with Charapa-B6 Well
(P&GJ) — Gran Tierra Energy Inc. has announced its fifth oil discovery in Ecuador with the successful drilling of the Charapa-B6 well on the Charapa Block.
This marks the company’s third oil find in 2024, further demonstrating the potential of the region.
The Charapa-B6 well, located just west of the Arawana-J1 and Bocachico Norte-J1 wells on the Chanangue Block, has shown promising results. Production testing has begun, with the well producing at a stabilized rate of 2,118 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) with a 2.2% water cut and 28.2-degree API gravity oil.
This discovery is part of Gran Tierra’s focused exploration campaign in the Oriente and Putumayo basins. The company’s CEO, Gary Guidry, noted that these discoveries highlight the effectiveness of their exploration strategy and signal a bright future for their operations in both Ecuador and Colombia.
The rig used for Charapa-B6 has been moved to drill the Charapa-B7 exploration well, which was spud on Aug. 9.
