China Wants To Double Gas Pipelines By 2020

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) plans to double its total natural gas pipeline as well as its natural gas production by 2020.

CNPC plans to extend its natural gas pipeline network from 23,000 km to 50,000 km which would increase handling capacity from 60 Bcm/a to 210 Bcm/a.

CNPC aims to double production of natural gas from 61.7 Bcm in 2008 to 120 Bcm/a in 2015 and 150 Bcm/a in 2020. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) plans to have a capacity for 50 MMt/a of LNG by 2020. CNOOC’s LNG import capacity is 6 MMt/a. Gas accounts for 3% of China’s energy supply and LNG would reduce dependence on coal.
