Bulgaria Continues To Snub Proposed Oil Pipeline

Bulgaria’s Parliament denounced again the trilateral agreement for construction of the Burgas-Alexandoupolis oil pipeline.

The step comes after expiration of Bulgaria’s proposal for a termination of the intergovernmental agreement by mutual consent. Bulgaria adopted a decision to withdraw from the project in 2011. Officials then noted back that the project could not be implemented under the parameters set out in the inter-government agreement with Russia and Greece in 2007. At the end of February, Bulgaria’s Parliament confirmed a decision to abandon another key Russian energy project, the Belene nuclear power plant.
