What's New March 2021

Logan Industries

Logan Industries offers marine scrubber repair and servicing at its new pressure vessel heat exchanger (PVHEX) facility in Hempstead, Texas. The facility, designed and engineered to e-produce scrubbers for the petrochemical, marine, ocean transport, chemical and nuclear industries, has been instrumental in growing the business applications of Dutch sister company Verolme, enabling it to offer independent service for scrubber repair/services and overboard piping solutions across North America for the first time. The water draining out of marine scrubbers through overboard discharge water pipes is corrosive and requires special piping materials. Since protective coatings are not sufficient and can be damaged, resulting in corrosion and leaks, Verolme provides a (class-approved) in-house-designed and manufactured Verolme Modifie Alloy overboard pipe with diffuser. www.loganindustries.net

Dekotec

Dekotec GmbH offers Dexpand-CF70, which repairs damaged sections of steel pipes and restores the structural integrity, returning them to their original level. The pipeline can be repaired during ongoing operations using the carbon composite repair system. The system can provide a 75% savings, Dekotec said. It is suitable to repair defects in which up to 80% of the original wall thickness has been lost.

Caterpillar

The new Cat D7 dozer offers high-drive undercarriage design, increased performance and the broadest choice of easy-to-use technology features. A fully automatic four-speed transmission offers optimal fuel and dozing efficiency, plus ease of operation. At 265 horsepower (197 kilowatts) and an operating weight of 65,644 pounds (29,776 kilograms), the new D7 dozer replaces the D7E. The D7 moves up to 8% more material per hour than the D7E, with about 6% more weight and 12% more horsepower. Blade capacity is increased by 10%, and the elevated sprocket undercarriage delivers better ride and balance, as well as increased penetration force. The completely redesigned cab, common with the D5 and D6/D6 XE, offers more space, multiple seat and control adjustments for optimal comfort and a 10-inch (254-mm) touchscreen operator interface. www.cat.com

Farwest

Farwest Corrosion Control introduced the Ref-Check VPR test instrument for voltage potential restoration (VPR). The device is an advancement in a product line of instruments for overcoming false- or low-potential readings from compromised cathodic protection reference electrodes (CPRE). The Ref-Check series of test instruments allows cathodic protection technicians to take accurate voltage potential or structure-to-soil readings despite conditions that would otherwise produce inaccurate readings, requiring the costly replacement of aging CPREs. www.farwestcorrosion.com

B&K Vibro

B&K Vibro offers a palm-sized device that provides vibration level and bearing wear monitoring for balance-of-plant machines at the push of a button. The lightweight device can enable even untrained personnel to take vibration measurements and assess a semi-critical machine’s overall vibration condition. The instrument is equipped with a pre-set, cable-connected, high-quality B&K Vibro acceleration sensor. Once the type and size of the machine, based on ISO 10816, and its running speed are entered, a one-button push can perform the measurement. A traffic-light display immediately indicates the severity of the vibration based on the built-in ISO 10816 alarm limits (velocity in millimeter/second or inches/second).  www.bkvibro.com

Ashcroft

Ashcroft introduced the Ashcroft 5503 low-differential pressure gauge, which offers extra protection against a wide variety of corrosive liquids and gases. The new “LH” option adds Ashcroft 700 series diaphragm seals with flexible capillaries to any 5503 gauge, ranging from 60 inches H2O (3 psi) through 160 inches H2O (6 psi). Choices of wetted materials includes 316 stainless steel, tantalum, titanium, Hastelloy B, Hastelloy C 276, K-Monel and Carpenter 20. Dial sizes of 4 inches (100 mm) and 6 inches (160 mm) are available with optional features including liquid fill, electrical contacts and a choice of mounting hardware www.ashcroft.com

Elma Electronic

Elma Electronic added two 3U backplanes to its products aligned to Snapshot 3 of the SOSA Technical Standard. Available populated with or without VITA 67.3 connectors for timing and radio frequency (RF) connectivity, the six-slot and eight-slot backplanes provide the foundation for complex, high-speed signal processing systems. The backplanes incorporate the latest for precision network timing plus slot profiles for single board computers (SBCs), switches, radial clocks and expansion. All data paths support high-speed signals. Either used as-configured or customized, the SOSA-aligned backplanes offer considerable design flexibility. The extensible, modular design enables a wide range of slot counts and connection configurations. www.elma.com
