Serbia Extends Gazprom Gas Supply Deal Through September
Serbia has secured additional natural gas supplies as the country balances energy security needs with ongoing efforts to diversify import sources.
(Reuters) — Serbia has secured an additional supply of gas from Gazprom for another three months until late September, Serbia's energy minister said late on June 4.
An extension for another three months after June 30 has been confirmed, Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic was cited by Tanjug agency as saying, after meeting the chairman of the board of directors of Gazprom Aleksej Miller in Saint Petersburg.
"This is important for our country, for our citizens, for our economy, because these are stable deliveries, extremely affordable, but also because of the flexibility and the quantities they carry," Handanovic was quoted as saying.
Serbia had secured in March a three-month extension of its gas contract with Russia.
Cheaper imports of Russian gas cover up to 90% of Serbia's needs, though Belgrade has sought to diversify supply with gas from Azerbaijan and liquefied natural gas from terminals in Greece.
