Air Liquide Invests $50 Million to Expand Hydrogen Network on U.S. Gulf Coast

Air Liquide will invest $50 million to expand its hydrogen pipeline network and storage assets on the U.S. Gulf Coast, strengthening supply to major refiners and reinforcing its leadership in hydrogen infrastructure.

(P&GJ) — Air Liquide will invest about $50 million to strengthen its hydrogen infrastructure along the U.S. Gulf Coast, supporting new long-term supply agreements with two of the country’s largest refiners.

The company said the investment will fund upgrades to its existing hydrogen pipeline system, as well as new compression and distribution equipment integrated into its current network in Texas. The project will expand capacity with minimal new construction by leveraging Air Liquide’s established assets.

Air Liquide’s Gulf Coast hydrogen network is connected to the world’s largest hydrogen cavern in Spindletop, Texas, owned and operated by the company. The network serves large industrial customers across the region, including refineries and chemical plants.

“Our investment in the U.S. Gulf Coast, driven by these new long-term hydrogen agreements with key market leaders, underscores Air Liquide’s commitment to supporting the evolving industrial landscape in America and strengthening its leadership,” said Matthieu Giard, Group Executive Committee member overseeing operations in the Americas. “This strategic move reinforces our significant footprint in this dynamic industrial basin and reflects our broader strategy to optimize hydrogen production and supply, leveraging our existing infrastructure.”
