Titan Launches DNV-Verified FuelEU Pooling Model for LNG, Bio-LNG

Titan Clean Fuels has completed its first FuelEU Maritime pooling exercise, with DNV verification highlighting growing use of LNG and bio-LNG to meet emissions compliance.

(P&GJ) — Titan Clean Fuels has completed its first FuelEU Maritime pooling exercise, with classification society DNV verifying the results for the 2025 compliance period, the company said.

The pooling system brought together several hundred vessels, combining operators with emissions deficits and those exceeding compliance targets to balance overall performance under the European regulation.

Titan said it managed the process from fuel supply through verification, including the use of liquefied biomethane (LBM) to generate compliance credits for participating vessels.

Grégoire Hartig, commercial director at Titan, said the initial results demonstrate the viability of pooling as a compliance tool.

He said the first round “provides proof of concept” for the company’s pooling service as it prepares to expand participation in future compliance periods.

According to Titan, about 73% of LNG used by its Optimus bunker vessel during the period was bio-LNG, with the company targeting full use of LBM in the next phase.

The FuelEU Maritime framework allows operators to pool emissions performance, enabling vessels using lower-carbon fuels such as LNG and bio-LNG to offset those exceeding limits.

Titan said the mechanism is expected to play a growing role as shipowners seek to manage compliance costs and reduce exposure to FuelEU penalties.
